National Ride2School Day
1 Jan 2010 - 2 Jan 2010 (8:00am to 10:00am)
Over 71,000 students left the car at home and walk and wheeled their way to school on National Ride2School Day.
A grand total of 1,166 schools registered to join in the largest ever national celebration of walking and riding to school.
The results are in and based on the Hands Up! numbers of 486 schools and over 124,000 students we can confidently assert that at least 57% of students walked or rode on the day.
Congratulations to all the parents and teachers who participated. There was so much excitement and fun across the country. Healthy breakfasts, bike rides, bike decorating competitions and parades were all just some of the ways schools celebrated the day.
National Ride2School Day is a great way to kick start regular active travel habits at your school. It's fun, achieveable and so much better for congestion around your school not to mention awesome for the health of your students. See how Eltham East Primary celebrated with a visit from a Bicycle Victoria staff member.
If your school missed National Ride2School Day this year, you can still host a Ride2School Day some other time during the year when it suits your school. The online resources can be used at any time during the year and tailored to your schools needs. It's never too late to hold a Ride2School Day!

Around the Bay in a Day® enables all bike riders to participate in Australia's largest single day bike ride and meet the challenge of riding around Port Phillip Bay. In its 17th year, we had over 15,600 riders participate in five different ride options.
Riders, you have the opportunity to go the extra mile and raise money for official charity partner The Smith Family. Riders this year have raised more than $900,000 doubling the figures for 2008 of $400,000 for The Smith Family.
At the conclusion of the ride, thousands of riders enter the fantastic Alexandra Gardens start/finish site where live music, entertainment, roving entertainers, corporate hospitality, food and beverage facilities, and sponsor displays and giveaways provide a fantastic end to a great ride.
The Around the Bay in a Day®, GO Bike Expo®, and National Ride to Work Day will again be the cornerstones of the Melbourne Cycling Festival in 2010, with Victoria’s three iconic cycling events coming together to create a major week of cycling-centric activity in Melbourne.
